At last, someone speaking sense. Persistantly, I get conned by high scores on IMBD (7/10) into watching these damn fart-house films. You sit through it waiting for the spark but it never comes. I just don't understand how anyone can regard this malinky tosh as entertaining.

The film is meant to be viewed multiple times in order to comprehend its meaning on multiple levels (just like the levels of dream states). Characterization is not important in connecting with the "dreams made real" motif of the story. It's purposely difficult to completely identify with these characters as we have no idea what is real and what isn't throughout the movie. Personally I find it more meaningful to incorporate my own feelings into the story, just as I can reflect upon my own dreams and apply my own interpretation to them. When faced with so much garbage at the box office, what a refreshing take on a great story idea. I loved the film and can't wait to see what Nolan writes next.

I couldn't agree with you more. Why is it that critics just love movies about dysfunctional families no matter how awful they are? I couldn't wait till this movie ended. What a motley bunch of characters.

This is the best movie since Dark Knight! Mind blowing special effects, creative storyline, and guess what, this is the movie without an antagonist! Worth to watch a 2nd time, or maybe the 3rd.

The review is dead right. This movie advertises intellectual excitement as well as special effects. We get the effects but don't reach the level of What-Is-Reality 101.

As the man said, "Disappointed"!

I feel like you are being too critical here. The movie was fabulous and had so many layers for discussion and dissection that I am still talking about it's possibilities with friends. I agree with a reader above about the characters needing to be as surface as they were. For all we know, they were all projections and maybe had no past, only the the present knowledge the dreamer's sub conscience wanted them to have. I believe Nolan created them this way to leave open the possibility that the movie was a dream, and maybe Mal was right, the reality was somewhere else entirely. I think you are over looking what Nolan CREATED and replacing that with things he left out. Just because a director doesn't show the depth an actor has to offer, doesn't mean they are doing a bad job, it could be that it was intentional.

Also, the who what when where and why of it all is unclear, yes, but I think that is on purpose. Take the clothing for instance. By looking at the wardrobe of the characters, you cannot even really tell what time period they are in. Sometimes it feels modern, as in the "reality" scenes, sometimes it feels retro as in the hotel scenes. Doesn't it seem like that is clearly a directional decision and not just an overlooking of detail?

And further more, you can't admit that you didn't enjoy the movie...and what else do we make movies for than for entertainment? Just food for thought..

Hey....we know how deep Nolan can get with his characters...witness dark knight. In Inception the peripheral characters, and where they were for most of the film, were treated like dream peripheral characters are. No history, just kind of there. The one who we,maybe, knew some reality about,Dom,was given the depth etc. people are complaining about.

the best Inception review i've found so far. i found the plot and pacing gripping, but the who, what, where, why, when, and how totally unengaging or totally absent from this piece of star-studded drivel. the talented cast was put to terrible use and the script had no hint of what was going on in the real world. i get that it was supposed to be a mind-fuck, but confusing an audience just because you can is a waste of time.
